Yup! Bring it on!

Here's the schedule:
  • October 27 @ Buffalo
  • Jan 6 @ Buffalo
  • Feb 7 @ Ottawa
  • Feb 11 @ Buffalo
  • Mar 7 @ Ottawa
  • Mar 17 @ Ottawa

Only 6 games this year because of the league's new schedule.

I listened to part of the Sabres/Jackets game on the radio last night...a lot of fighting for a pre-season game.

The Sabres start off against the pre-season power ranking champion Montreal Canadiens next friday...should be an interesting game.

There are fantasy hockey teams/leagues...I was in one a year or two ago but did not find it nearly as interesting as Fantasy Football.

Others will join Mike and I when the season really gets underway.

Gerber, as I expected, was terrible on Saturday. Auld was better yesterday, but he's still not good enough to be a #1 goalie. Goaltending has long been Ottawa's achilles heal, and this year will be no different.

Oh well, I guess 3 of 4 points to open the season is hard to complain about.

I was figuring on a loss last night against the then 5-0 Rangers...but boy did the Sabres look good (and now they are 3-0)

I seem to remember a certain other north-east division team getting off to an amazing start last year, even had people talking about 82-0. How did that end? Oh yeah, losing side of a first round 4 game sweep.

We got away with a single point last night after a very lackluster performance from the entire team...

I agree Mike, there needs to be 3 points awarded to every game. (I think you mentioned that before)

Not exactly. I just want to get rid of the loser point for OT and shootout games. If every game is going to have a winner and a loser, than 1 point for a win and 0 for a loss, period.

Even better IMO, get rid of the damned shootout, and award a single point for a win. That's it. No points for a loss or a tie.

My nephew's team played their first game yesterday, but I couldn't make it (I was at the Sens game). I went to his game today, but the game was called in the 2nd period because of an injury to a player on my nephew's team. I talked to my brother-in-law after the game (he's a medically trained firefighter and the team's trainer). Sounds like the kid wrenched his back and neck in a 3-player open ice collision (I didn't see it). They took him to the hospital in an ambulance as a precaution.

It was my first chance to shoot hockey since April, so my timing isn't quite there yet. Haven't taken a close look at my shots, but I don't think there's anything spectacular waiting for me. I did find this one of my nephew, which is alright (or maybe it's a snap that I like because it is my nephew). It would be better if he was looking towards me, but oh well.

I just got an update on the kid who was hurt in yesterday's game - 3 broken vertebrae in his back. Ouch! :(

That is a horrible injury to sustain, especially in the (what is Mike 12?) Pee Wee age range. Does he have full movement or is there some paralysis?

Mike's 13, first year of bantam. The kid was on Mike's peewee team last year, so he's also a first year bantam. Must be 13 as well.

I don't know anything more about the injury, but he did skate off the ice on his own. Nothing was said about paralysis, so let's hope not.

Oh gees, that's horrible.

My boyfriend (32) still has back problems from a roller hockey injury in his teens. (Got slammed into the boards) Seeing how he literally gets a wrenched back now and then, I really hope this young man's doctor has an excellent long term care plan for him...

Well Kurt, the way the Sens and Sabres are playing right now, I'd say tomorrow's game is as close to a guaranteed win night the Sabres will ever have. The state of the goaltenders in Ottawa is a shambles, as I predicted it would be. Gerber can be counted on for at least one bad goal each game, but he's hurt anyway (blessing in disguise?). Auld will never amount to more than a career backup (some would same the same about Gerber).

But goaltending isn't the only problem. The defense has been very weak, and the top two lines are just skating around in circles. The 4th line is the only one that seems to get any points.

I'm not even bothering to get an avatar ready for you for this game, as I doubt very much that I'll be needing it.

Maybe losing to the Leafs last night will be enough of an embarrassment that they'll actually put in a little bit of effort tomorrow.

Is it the Sens/Sabres tonight already? I knew there was a game tonight but had not looked at the actual schedule to see who it was against.

Should be fun, will have to find time to make an avitar but will be asleep before the game is over. Not sure how long this working third shift is going to last :o

Wow, wouldn't have guessed that. It caught me unprepared. I'll have to make an avatar for ya tomorrow.

Sens looked good. Hopefully they can keep it going on Thursday in Florida.

Oh yeah? Well, my team sucks more than your team!

It'll be more active starting in January, when they play each other a few more times.

Hey, I know team that doesn't suck!!! I've made three games so far. We are looking pretty good but are injury prone early. At least we don't have a goalie with a "hang nail" problem anymore.
