GRRR@T$(KV$KLQL#)DF!@#

Okay, so some A**HOLES hacked my website!

Long story short: I use a wonderful, fantastic, photo sales cart that I would highly recommend to anyone (still.) A few weeks ago the creator was contacted by hackers and being extorted for large sums of money because they found a way to compromise his system that would allow them access into any of his customers sites. (read: me.) He obviously didn't pay up, but instead contacted the FBI and immediately sent out a security patch to all his customers. I installed it straight away. Phew!

Yesterday I can't seem to access the admin page of the photo cart. I contact Tim, he fixes it, and says "it looks like someone may have gotten into your FTP, I'd change your password." Today I go to take care of things...

Huh? Google says my site may contain malware? WTF is malware? Oh... it's viruses. Uh oh. But wait, it's says my site is called "thebestwaytofind.cn." My site is called "pawprintspictures.com." What the hell is going on...

So I call GoDaddy since Tim thought it had to do with FTP. GoDaddy is stumped, so they log on to thebestwaytofind.com. Security block - this is a known attacker site which sends out viruses. Greaaaat. "Check your coding, maybe someone from that site hacked in a hidden redirect." Oh shit.

Checking code... Yep, they did. Right there, in glaring ugliness - hacker code in my site. This should be easy, just delete, re-save. Done! :-D

Wait - it won't save? OS Error? And why isn't "index" showing up in my ftp list... Grrr....
Time to reboot the FTP connection. Ah, there's the index page.

Opening... waiting... waiting. WHERES ALL THE EFFIN CODE!

There's nothing there. Blank, void, nothing but white. They somehow put in a "self-destruct" if someone tried to un-hack themselves. BASTARDS!

Well, if I had the original index page on my computer this would be no big deal. But a web guy put it together for me, he has the original. And last month I tried to contact him regarding the password for the java calendar, and he never got back in touch. So here I sit at 11:00pm, when I have to be up at 6:15 for a shoot tomorrow, re building an index page. It won't have the cool java scroller, but it will work.

I hate hackers. hate Hate HATE!

Heck, I was planning on rebuilding my site in June anyway. Just not like this.

The web is just a fad, soon it will be over and we can all go back to fax machines and hard line phones (cell phones are just a fad too).

That sucks.

I wonder if there is any fault in your 'cart' application that would require them to pay for fixing this...as their software that you are paying to use was the access point for the hackers.

Almost as bad as the disadvantage "persons" that helped themselves to most of our household electronics. Luckily our homeowners insurance is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo accommodating.....not!

^^You were robbed?? Oh no!!!

I put up an older version of the home page, minus the nifty image scroller and calendar pop-up. It's fine for now. And i changed all my web passwords to some impossible combinations. acronyms and what not. so far so good.

The photocart guy has been really supportive. I'm not gonna bug him about money or anything, these guys are already creating financial headaches for him, and he's been putting out patches as fast as he can. Trying to be really good to his customers.

My website needs a whole overhaul anyway. I've been to a cool internet marketing conference and i'm gonna incorporate a squeeze page and some video. It's probably gonna involve signign up for an all-in-one web package, which includes hosting, support, contact lists, blogs, affiliates, you name it. Looking at Razor-EZ right now. So until then, it's gonna stay as is.

If anyone wants to peek, go see: www.PawPrintsPictures.com
