I can't really put my finger on it, but this isn't quite working for me. I find the light on the two pillars on the right a little distracting and somehow "wrong". I also feel I want to see a bit more contrast and general "grittiness". Great location though - can you shoot there again?

I think it's lacking a bit of depth for me - you can see the beginnings of a mid and background, but the foreground largely obscures it and leaves it all a bit too flat for me. A location with potential though, I agree.

Hi Phil,

I agree with the suggestion that you try a bit more contrast. An image very similar to this one won the grand prize at our local photo exhibition this year, so don't toss it out! :)

Thanks everyone, luckily I shot this in RAW! :D

I can't do much about the lighting sources, they are what they are. I may a a shot as a cloud shadowed the building....have to look. This is Detroit's abandoned train station and it is well patrolled to keep photographers out. It's one of the sites the city prosecutes misdomeanor trespass which is $165.00 fine and court cost. So yes, I can reshoot, we are planning an incursion within the next few weeks. I set up this angle because there were other photograhers in the middle of the columns shooting another area, this kept them out of frame.

SID LIVES is not Sid Vicious but a legendary folk hero to the Detroit homeless from the late 1970's. This is a shot I'll rework and try the suggestions, I like the idea of grit...aka grain.

Phil

I agree with that it can do with some more contrast. One thing strikes me is that because the front pilar is full size in the photo it invites me to look up and down instead of in the depth of the photo. I have the feeling you create more depth if it is cropped where the light part of the frame touches the pilar.
Grain would look nice on this one.

It does the same to me. I actually have a RAW image without the sun shining through the front. Hopefully this week I'll get some time to play around with it.

Thanks,

Phil
