If you notice at the top of this page, we now have a link to the LightCafe.net chat room.

As some of you are aware, the chat room we used in the past was hosted by one of our moderators, ChrisL, on his personal web page. He has requested that we take over hosting and form a new channel as he will want to use that same name in the future. It's better that we have a name that goes with our site anyway, but we thank Chris for all his hard work and for hosting that chat room for us.

Our new room is provided by http://www.AfterNet.org and we host it here via a java applet. If you wish to connect directly to this room instead of using a java application, please download an IRC client for your computer.
The server is irc.afternet.org and the channel name is #lightcafe ...

Aaron

I couldn't successfully get onto chat with either link. With Kurt's I enter my user name and #lightcafe, but after pressing connect it doesn't load the applet. With Aaron's link I was just at the afternet home page and didn't know what to do next.

I'm confused... the link at the top of this page is what takes you to the chat. I didn't think I provided any other links... You should only go to afternet.org if you need to register an account before connecting. Some people can't get in because their connections are black listed and they need to log in while connecting. Make sure you have java enabled in your browser.

What web browser and version? I just tried it in IE 7 and it wouldn't load. I used it in IE 6 at work and it was fine. I just tried it in Firefox and it works.

Also, clear your cache, temp files, and temp internet files.

I use IE 7 and Windows XP. I run CCleaner after every time I close my browser, so all cookies, history, and files are deleted several times a day.

I tried it and it didnt work for me either. After hitting the connect, a second window saying "loading applet" appears and then this pops up.
"AfterNET WebChat - Add free chat to your own site". Then nothing. I tried turning off all pop-up blockers. I just got this computer a couple of days ago, it has xp with IE 6.0 with service pack 2.

I know for a fact it does not work well in IE 7. IE 7 has a lot of java stuff turned off. For the people that can't get it to work, you will probably have to download a stand alone chat client.

If you were having a problem, please try it again. I changed a setting and now it works in my Internet Explorer.

Let me know.

I saw you pop in, but it was after you had left.

The applet requires Java 1.4.

Hey guys/gals, there is not much chatting going on in the chatroom these days. Would anyone be interested in scheduled chats for specific topics? When I pop in there to see who is there it's always Aaron in there talking to himself. It's pretty bad when the poor guy has to make conversation with himself because nobody else goes in to chat. Anyway, it's just a suggestion.

I was really enjoying talking to myself. There were never any disagreements!

Scheduled chats would be good. Have to watch the times though because some people's evenings are during our early afternoons.

I occasionally give Aaron somebody else to talk to, I think he is beginning to have a case of spending too much time with himself...problems may arise.

Scheduled chats sound good, as long as it won't be 3am for me :)

Shouldn't have been... I am in it right now, but not through the applet..

I just tried it now and afternet.org seems to be unreachable causing the applet to not load.

I will see about getting a different application to use, but the best thing to do is to get one of the many free IRC chat programs available...

I use KVIrc.

I was just informed that the afternet.org web site was hacked. It will be back up once they rebuild it.

I didn't want to wait for the afternet server to get fixed. I put our own little chat client on our server... I have used it and it seems to work, but again, I will need anyone to tell me if it works or not or if they have issues.

You use the same link above, however if the page does not seem to be loading, hit your refresh button on your browser. Since it is using the same link as before, your browser may cache the old chat page instead of using the new one.

If the new one pops up a warning about accepting the security certificate, just click ok or accept on that window.

Hopefully this will solve a few other problems people were having.
