I am developing a portfolio showcase app and would love to hear some feedback from other photographers. The goal is to create a simple interface that allows photographers or artist to show their work without the nuances of most gallery applications.

Here is the YouTube Link to what I have so far.

I am not into the tablet/Iphone stuff but the app looks like a great way to show off your work anytime/anyplace. Where is the background music? :D

Thanks Philip. I plan to release this on the Android Market for free... hopefully it'll be of some use for other. About this music, do you think that is an option I should consider? It should be fairly simple to implement but I am just not sure if many use it - I personally don't.

Looks like this will be a great app. I might have to buy a tablet just so I can use it ;)

I don't have one, yet, but I plan to get one in the near future. A co-worker has an iPad and it truly is a great way to show off stuff to people. My wife has a kindle fire and I might just go that route unless something better with an SD card shows up this year. It only has 8 gig of space, but that should be enough to put my best stuff on it to show.

Love that interface. That would be exactly what I would want, too. What tablet is that?

Thanks guys! The video is of my Xoom 1 that I absolutely love. I'll post the link to the app when I have polished a few kinks - it "might" work on the Amazon Kindle since it is android based.

The only thing with the Kindle is that it uses the Amazon app store instead of the Android market. Supposedly there is a way to get the android market on it, but since it's my wife's, she doesn't want me touching it.

Aaron, You'll need Honeycomb or ICS on the tablet for this app to work. I saw a post somewhere which said that hackers are porting ICS to Kindle Fire so should be a possibility for you soon :)

I would definitely try it out on my hacked nook color.

Thanks! I may have to do some tinkering around to get the code to work on Gingerbread. Right now, it works on Honeycomb and ICS only but I "should" be able to get it to work on Gingerbread easily. Good thing is that I have a phone on Gingerbread so I should be able to test it for you :)

I'll try to upload something in a day or two if I can get it to work on Gingerbread.

No worries, I only really use the tablet when traveling. So, only make the changes if you want it working fro gingerbread.

Can you try to install this app? You will need to enable "Install applications from Unknown Sources" in settings. The photos should be places on the sdcard under a folder called Photography.

I tried it on my CM7 phone and it force closes as soon as I open it. If you want me to try anything or get some sort of log file, let me know.

Aaron, I think I know why the app is force closing on you. Just read up that SDCARD is mounted very differently on Gingerbread. I'll send you another version to try to see if it works but it won't look pretty because I haven't tweaked the screen yet. Good news is that you were able to install it which means you meet the requirements for the app :)

Aaron, do you mind re-installing the application? I have updated the app - same link. You will need to uninstall it first.

Also make sure there is a folder called "Photography" at the root of your SDCARD or Internal Memory (depends on how your device mounts internal data or sdcard)

If it errors again, can you please send me a logcat of the application? Let me know if you don't know how to get this.

I PM'd you Pali with a link to the logcat. If you want me to do something different just let me know.

Also, if there is a time that you want to sit down and just try a bunch of stuff, we can jump on Skype and mess around. You can also e-mail me if it's more convenient for you.

Aaron, the problem is exactly where I tried to fix it the first time - basically the application can't find the Photography folder on your tablet likely because its an hacked Android and the location is not the typical /mnt/sdcard or /mnt/external1/

Here is the appropriate error line from the logcat:
E/AndroidRuntime(26991): at com.pali.FotolioV2.ImageThumbnailsActivity.ReadSDCard(ImageThumbnailsActivity.java:397)

Do you have a File manager app like Astro Manager? If not, can you please install it and give me the folder path to your data storage. Should be under /mnt/ and it is usually called sdcard or external

I am installing skype now just in case we need to chat about this.

I found a reference to the storage being mapped to /mnt/emmc - can you confirm before I try to send a new version for you to test?

Can one of the admins add this link to my original post? http://www.netsoft2k.com/Docs/Droid/FotolioV2.apk

The application now works on Android with Gingerbread (2.3.3) and forward. This should now work on your tablet Shawn but it may look ugly - depending on the screen resolution. I'll keep working on it and optimize it for 7" plus screens.

Thank you to Aaron for helping me troubleshoot this on Gingerbread.
