I don't like labels however it seems we nerdy people have now been labeled "hipsters". This is a funny video outlining a cure.

I'm still slightly confused about what constitutes a hipster (I don't think the term is quite as widespread in the UK as it is in the States atm).

As far as I can figure out, it seems like a hipster is:

Someone who likes "retro" stuff (especially old film cameras)
Someone who drinks a lot of tea or coffee
Someone who likes to read books
Someone who wears a lot of knitwear

I think my tastes definitely align with 3 of those points so I guess I am well on the way to hipsterville!

In the 90s a hipster was someone who collected records and was into shitty college-radio indy music and coffee shop culture.

Now a hipster seems to be someone who has appropriated the style of the nerds of yesterday, to try to look more interesting and intelligent, and who is so completely devoid of self-esteem that they can't even earnestly like anything - it must all be "ironic".

I'm ambivalent to moderate hipsters, but anybody wearing non-prescription or lensless glasses deserves to be pantsed on behalf of all actual nerds who suffered for their eccentricity in the past. And anybody who sits in a public space clackety-clacking on a f**k typewriter deserves to be brained with said typewriter ;)

I'm turning into a bitter old man.
