Inspired by a song.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BstFHCwt ... re=related

Whoa, sign, sign.
Everywhere a sign.
Blockin' out the scen'ry.
Breakin' my mind.
Do this. Don't do that.
Can't you read the sign?
And the sign said,
"Anybody caught trespassin'
Will be shot on sight."

We are approaching another US holiday so as bearer of the torch I will set midnight SEPTEMBER 9, 2011 as the deadline...all time zones! I'll wake up Saturday morning, grab a Diet Coke and pick my favorite image. :D

I like the multiple entry concept that has been used in the last few challenges so I'll follow suit and say three entries per photographer. Old or new, artsy, fine artsy, black & white, color, HDR etc.. let 'er rip!

Also (warning Mike!) Selective Color!!

But this is literally signage, no metaphoric interpretations. Billboards, stores signs, sale signs, trespass signs, warning signs, etc... I did not have any problem finding dozens of examples so I am betting everyone has at least one photograph in a file at this very moment!

*September 9th: midnight of earths latest time zone.
* 3 submissions each
*any genre
*SIGNS

Good ones to get us started, Phil.

Usually refrain from posting OOC snapshots, but to help get us started, here's a favorite from a couple years back (some of you may have seen before). I have another with yours truly misbehaving in front of the sign, not sure it's suitable for posting here though. It's near my condo in Florida.

My 3 choices!

1. The duhhhhhh factor (Myrtle Beach):

Image

2. One of many directional signs seen on the beach in Negril, Jamaica. Looks like I caught this guy dozing!

Image

3. The summer in 2006 was a traumatic season for Myrtle Beach fans as they lost their beloved Pavilion Amusement
Park after it served the community for 50+ years. After this farewell party, the last of the park was demolished:

I was heading out the door this morning with my camera when the heavens opened... so i put it back inside again. Hope to be able to find something next week, as I won't have any time free for non-studio this weekend....

Love that end of the world shot above..

Posted in the interest of participation, not sure it's really a dedicated sign shot, but it has signs more or less, and I think I may have posted it here somewhere already, not sure.

Image

In the meantime, I too am hoping to get out and shoot for this challenge.

Side note: Dwayne, what on earth compelled you to post the shot of the model without a sign involved?

I hope you realise that I am just kidding you! :)

Like I mentioned in my Detroit Jazz Fest thread - I won't be doing much tilting anymore. I don't like it myself. I tried this one straight on as well, but I couldn't get the framing I wanted with the edge of the wall that had the neat stone texture to it. I wanted to highlight the sign in the window with the graffiti, but I also wanted to get some of that nice stone, so this is what I ended up with.

Before any one asks, yes I did go into the "Sex Fish Bar" and yes, I was slightly disappointed.

And to add to the variety, something a bit older...

This will be my final bump, you have at least 20 hours to post your sign photograph. Chances are after a night watching the Detroit Tigers battle and defeat the evil invaders from the tundra of Minnesota I'll be sleeping in OR maybe just getting home.

I know everyone must have a sign photograph filed on their hard-drive as I write this. :D

OMG that's a nice surprise!

Thanks all, and thanks for the fun challenge Phil. Right, off to find my thinking cap. There's been some excellent entries here, let's keep the momentum going.

New challenge coming soon :)
