Since it seems not enough members have alternative cameras, I'm choosing a new topic - Long Exposure

Every photo submitted should have an exposure time of 1/4s or longer. That's the only requirement. Three photos / person, no time limit, but new photos are preferred.

Winner will be selected sometime on November 7th.

(as you can see, I shoot this way a lot! ;) )

I doubt I'll have time to shoot anything new for this unfortunately, so instead one from last December.

Woburn Abbey by Greg Webb, on Flickr

EXIF seems to have got lost, sorry - it was ISO 100, 5 minutes at f/5.6, 12mm. Minor light painting on the church to try and balance shadows a little on the tower.

Last call for submissions. I'm preparing my dinner now, and then I'll pick the winner of the challenge after I eat.

Greg: I love the colours, and I like how at least a few stars are showing through. Placing the wall in the corner nicely anchors the photo, and creates a nice line to support the rest. For me though, there's too much sky with nothing of interest there. Light painting the church was a good idea. I wouldn't have guessed if you hadn't told me, which to me is a good thing.

Scott: I really like the contrast between the flowing water and the stationary ice. Good choice of shutter speed to show the flow of the water while retaining detail and avoiding the "milk" look. I'd crop the top to get rid of that hole at the top of the image. That makes a cleaner image with fewer distractions for me.

Scott: I love these type of abstract camera-motion shots, I do them often. The colours in this one really work well and compliment each other really nicely. Maybe a crop on the right to get rid of that extra tree trunk which tends to draw the eye.

Scott: Another nice water motion shot, but I think this one is missing the solid element like the ice in your first.

TimmyG: Nice night urban scene. Great perspective, and I love the inclusion of the graffiti. My only nit is the dark leaves in the upper left corner.

Phil: It took me a few moments to see this one. Very cool, creepy shot for hallowe'en.

Phil: Just like the stores, straight from hallowe'en to Christmas  Honestly, not sure about this one. Its a nice, bit house, nicely lit, but I'm just not seeing what you brought to the photograph.

Brazilliance: Great use of the long exposure to smooth the water and show motion in the clouds. The dock forms great leading lines, taking the viewer right into the photograph. I really like this one, I could easily see it printed big on canvas and on my wall.

Dwayne: Great motion in the clouds, and great use of the street lamp to provide an static object to anchor it all.

Dwayne: Very minimalist image, almost abstract. It's an image that on the surface looks very simple, but is anything but simple to pull off. I like this one too.

It's a really tough choice between Brazilliance and Dwayne's second image, but I'm gonna go with ....

Brazilliance

Well done, and I think this is the first time we've had two double winners on the banner at the same time (I honestly did not let this influence my decision).

Congrats Jamie. A very nice example of how a long exposure can enhance a landscape shot and make it into something different.
