Well, let me kick it off with Aaron's favorite bird:the rare & elusive Port Huron White Hawk

It comes with a poem that was played at the end of the TV broadcast day. Yes, TV actually went off the air and we had static on all FIVE channels for 5 hours before the morning news or Captain Kangaroo aired.
well, it goes back to the 1950's.

High Flight
Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
of sun-split clouds, — and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of — wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there,
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air. . . .

Up, up the long, delirious burning blue
I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or ever eagle flew —
And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.
— John Gillespie Magee, Jr

I actually found the video ! For those interested: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EzQYd_INSOg

Nice shots Phil.

Wings are not a popular choice for the challenge it seems.

We did do wings back in April (you won it!) but hopefully there will be a few late entries.

Thunder, you might want to extend the deadline on this, as today is the day. I was looking for something different than the ones I posted in April, but I got caught up in some project deadlines and have not the time.

Hmmmm, man, I knew that I had a week memory, but this is sad ….Did it just a few months ago, I won, and did not remember….Apologies to all. :(

A few more days, or another week? Unless a different title would be better.

Your call Thunder. Do you want to stick with wings and run until next weekend, or pick a new topic?

How about we hand it to Phil by default, his shots are really fine, and I'd prob just mess it up again.

I'm sure you wouldn't mess up, but if you are happy to go with Phil as the winner, that's fine too. Let me know which shot (the feathered wings or the metal ones!) and I will do my admin bit with the page headers. Getting near my bedtime now so I'll do it over breakfast on Sunday.

Both are great shots, but I'm digging the jets.

Good shot here Phil.

Nice shot and nice poem. I immediately thought of Reagan and the Challenger tragedy ("... slipped the surly bonds of earth ... and touched the face of God"). I hadn't realised they were not original words.

Ok with me ...... I'll get something since the photo is already on top.

I shot the jets at a local airshow that is due back in 2013 if the local Air National Guard base isn''t closed. It was raining most of that day but had a few bright moments but not too many blue sky opportunities.

I'll get a new challenge up soon.
